Historically, Bonsai are cherished because they bring a part of nature and heritage to your home and garden.  The Chinese culture began to cultivate miniature trees.  They collected living miniature plants that grow in the wild and added a handful of soil in a tiny pot.  Later, the Japanese developed Bonsai into a unique art.  The literal translation of Bonsai is "plant in a pot."  They developed unique pots, tools, and techniques that have made this into a living art form.

***Remember to puncture the seals on the bottom of my pot.  If drainage holes are covered, wait 3 weeks and then puncture the seals so that I can drain.***

Water me!  When my soil looks and feels dry, water me and keep me moist. Generally, water me overhead and let the water run out of the drain holes in the bottom.  Once in a while, soak me in a tub of water until the water bubbles stop - about 10 to 15 minutes.  This technique is best if my soil ever becomes completely dry.  Otherwise, water overhead until the water flows out of the drain holes.  This will help to keep salts out of my pot.

Outdoor Bonsai:  I prefer to be out doors most of the time. I can be brought inside 2-3 days per week. I can be kept indoor a little longer if you put me in an open, sunny location. If you collect several Bonsai, you can rotate us indoors and out, and always have one of us in a special place.

Indoor Bonsai:  Bonsai such as Ficus, Lucky Bamboo, Ming, Pony Tail Palms and some Miniature Roses can be kept indoors in a moderately-lit area.

Feed Me:  I can have regular house plant food during my growing period.  Or, you can feed me special Bonsai food, and/or Cottonseed Meal (which I especially like!)

Shape Me Once In A While:  Don't be afraid to pinch back my growth at anytime.  I may be re-potted and root trimmed every 3 to 5 years. You can keep me in the same container, or a larger one - this will cause me to grow larger. Remove any wire that begins to dig into my trunk.  I will keep my shape!

With minimal care I may live and be enjoyed for 100 years or more!
